In this world there are enough distractions. It can be hard to walk by faith; especially if you do not know what that is or the one in whom you put your faith is powerless.
You can have this assurance: the God of the Bible is faithful and able to perform that which He says.
Let us start here: what is faith?
Faith, in its simplest terms, is a decision to trust. In the New Testament the Greek word pistis is used.(1) It means choosing to be fully persuaded that what you believe is true.
Faith by itself is empty. You can fervently believe you can fly, have every confidence that you can supercede gravity, but unless you have the power of flight you will sustain flight until gravity takes over. At that point you will land.
As children, we played super heroes. Once my younger brother took a running start and lept from the side of a gully into the air. He flew for about a second before landing hard and sliding along the bottom of the gully. He had the earnest desire to fly but lacked that ability.
Faith, to work right, must be placed in one who is able to perform.
Today’s technology allows us the power of flight. We must put our trust, our faith, in the pilots, mechanics, engineers, and air traffic controllers that once we are in the metal tube with combustable jets attached that we will get to where we intended, hoped, we would go.
There are areas of life where we do not have the power to do. The God of the Bible said if we would simply believe that He is able He would help us in those areas where we cannot do.
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.”(2)
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”(3)
Your faith can be placed in the God of the Bible. He wants to walk you. He wants you to live your with Him; here and beyond here.
If you study the Bible to any extent, you will discover we are His children.(4) He made us in His image, to be like Him, and to be with Him. It is His wish, His desire that we live with Him, that we live this life with Him.
This life is near impossible to live without God’s help. Many have lived this life without God, and struggled the whole time. In this life there will be struggles. Fear not, God has overcome the world. God did this through Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the gateway to having a relationship with God. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come near, connect with, nor have a relationship with God a part from coming through Jesus. Why? Because God loves you so much He gave you Jesus.
If you are in Jesus Christ, you can walk with God just as if you never were a part from Him.
That walk is built on your trust, your faith, that Jesus was enough to allow you to get near God. Your faith is placed in God from what you have heard or seen, but not necessarily from a sign.
“Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”(5)
Your faith applied is your choice. There is nothing yet seen beyond what you know to be right on the inside. Sometimes, there is not even that. There is simply the choice to begin, a blind faith.
I did this. I said after reading John 20.29, I do not need to see. I just trust you, Jesus. After that, all kinds of things in the Spirit of God began to happen. I began to walk with God by His grace.
From time to time, I am reminded that I need encouragement to maintain my walk with God. There are times when I have been less than. But God is good. He puts people in our lives to help us make it, to steer us in the right direction. This is why we need to stay connected to a local church; to be encouraged and to realize our situation is not unique.
So, choose this day to begin your own personal walk with the God of the Bible. Jesus will get you connected. God will give you His Spirit so you can walk with Him in this world with the power to overcome this world.
Simply ask. Pray from where you are in life and ask Him: God, I ask you to come into my life and walk with me. Let me walk with you through what Jesus did at the cross and the grave. I accept Jesus as the price paid so I can come near you. I trust You that right now begins a new day of me walking out this life with You. Amen. So be it.
If you prayed that, rejoice. A new day, a new life begins. It does not matter where you are or what you did, today the God of the Bible begins a walk in faith with you.
Begin your walk. Read the Bible. Get to know who God is. Get in a local church and be with others who also are in a walk with God in faith.
