The evidence of things unseen.

The hardest part about faith is not seeing. It is a concept that by trusting the words that are spoken by God, who is Elohim (All Mighty), are so sure and true that they take on the same tangible, sensible aspects of hard, physical evidence. To out limited minds and spiritual awareness, anything that is not seen and touchable is difficult to believe. The state of Missouri gained reputation of being the “Show Me” state, because so many of the inhabitants would not believe something unless they saw it. Jesus was quoted in Matthew 12:39 as saying, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, …”

A sign: hard, physical evidence

My Why – An Observation

In response to another’s observation regarding why a “Tea Party” for north Texas.

President Lincoln penned that the US is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. His assumption was this government was established in 1776. From then to now, there have arisen politicians that would rather take money from the citizens and spend that money for the sake of spending. If the citizens in our district do not step up and speak out, then the spenders have won.

Our future is being mortgaged away. Spendthrift politicians have become more interested in what they can spend now. Taking money with no plan, no intention, to pay back is criminal … unless you are in Washington, DC.

Fiscal conservatism needs to return to Washington. I am thankful that it is growing stronger in Austin. We can stand greater fiscal controls in county and municipal government.

Government is not the end-all, cure-all, be-all that some have said it should be. No, our government is supposed to be minimal and unobtrusive. The US Constitution should be read in its entirety to the Houses of Congress at the beginning of each session and at the return of any break. Some seem to have forgotten why they are in Washington.

Individual freedoms are slowly being eroded away by vocal special interest groups that are more interested in what they can control rather than what is right. The USA is not any other country. Our model of government is different on purpose. We are not a nation with a sovereign dictating to us how we should live. We are a nation of sovereign individuals who cede some of our sovereignty in recognition of our neighbor’s sovereignty and they ours. We are a nation of equals working together for a common whole. There is no caste or socio-politico-economic barriers that cannot be passed through hard work and effort on the part of the individual. The USA is not socialist Europe. Our European forefathers wisely chose not to follow that model. Our forefathers from other parts of the world fled other nations and governments for a nation that has at its core an “American Dream.” Home of the free, land of the brave … daring to believe in thinking for themselves a government of the people, made by the people, for those very same people.

My ‘why.’

Urban … a poem
by Dave Doc Rogers
© 20090130

Gray and white sidewalks
Trees trapped within islands of dirt
Paper and glass pushed into corners
Grime coats everything

People huddle close
Flitting eyes glance
Hands clutch purses tighter
I walk by

Shuffling feet
A bum looks my way
Imploring eyes plead
I look away

Four hours in fluorescent
The massive herd escapes
Parks, benches, little tables
Coney, mustard, sauerkraut, two

Five hours in fluorescent
The hubbub wanes
Little clicks of keyboards
Lights switch off

Same drunken faces
Stained yellow with cigarettes
Non-talk and bad food
Waves and last nods g’night

Neon flares
Twitching light
Buzzing grows loud then wanes
I walk by

Corrogated hotels of cardboard
The destitute rich for a night
No one sees anyone
They all just walk by

Up the steps
Past one lock
Three flight walk up
Two locks I’m in

City street lights shine
Vacant eyes stare
Inebriated zombies stagger
People walk fast by slow moving cars

Staring out my window
One more butt
One more bottle
Time slips by

Yes, interesting. Isn’t it?
Years of study, years of prayer, years of preparation, years of want to … and no one was asking. Interesting.
I even started my own local church but no one wanted to show up. My wife even wanted to go somewhere else because she missed being around people on Sundays. That’s funny to me now; frustrating then.
Now it seems that someone has asked … on purpose asked … me to preach / teach from the Word of God. Cool. Yes, a very understated ‘cool.’
I am not excited about the opportunity to preach. I never liked getting up in front of people in the first place. But,… if I can take a moment of the audience’s attention and tell them convincingly about Jesus and the goodness of the God of Israel … well, in terms of speaking the English language, it doesn’t get better than this.
So, this Sunday morning I get the awesome opportunity to preach/teach on prayer because that is what I was asked to teach on. I know something on the subject but I asked God moreso what He would like me to touch on. I will be a mail man, delivering a personal note from God to those who hear my words. I ask you to help me pray through that lives will be touched and changed, that the real GOD of Israel touches the lives of people through the work that Jesus did.
I appreciate your prayers and support.

Cheers! Be blessed!
