You are probably not going to like this.
The Democratic Party was anything but as they out marketed the Republicans. The Republican leadership centered on change of current leadership without really addressing main issues directly. The Republican Party seemed to retread old ideologies and were only respondent rather than being foot forward and needling the Democratic Party leadership for six years of really poor governance. The term “idiots” come to mind. Oh, and the Democratic Party managed to keep Joe Biden mostly quiet.
Let me pick on the Republican Party first. There was no emphasis on sound governance. There was no emphasis on the leadership of the President in working with both houses of Congress to promote sound legislation. There was no emphasis on just how disparate the President’s policies and administration were from the U. S. Constitution. No. It seems the focus was on being rich is not bad, taxing the rich more won’t help, Romneycare is not like Obamacare, we are friends of Israel, we have black people too, we like women just as much as you, our war policy is not that different from your stated war policy, you’re a nice guy (toward the President), we have a tax plan but no details, we have a job plan but no details, our plans make cuts but we won’t hurt the guys and gals on the dole, we would not have bailed out Wall Street or the auto industry (actually Ford didn’t need help, it was the other guys that were too big to fail), we like the unions but are fair, our foreign policy is not that much different than yours …..
When it came down to it, those folks in the middle and still undecided only saw “the same with more negatives.” That translated into “keep the evil you know instead of the evil you don’t know.” It is a rather stupid and uninformed choice. You are still keeping evil.
The Democratic Party did a good job of marketing the Republicans as a bad choice and it worked.
Now for the Democratic Party. They did an excellent job of keeping the race focused on Obama’s mixed parentage, race baiting, gay bashing, and women denegration while never actually stating anything cogent, meaningful, or supportive of the United States of America. There was a lot of talk about Obama as a leader but no factual or supportive argument that he actually led. There was a lot of talk about what he wanted to do but again no factual or supportive argument as to how he would accomplish that. Mr Obama seems to have voted “present” for the last four years unless someone shoved a pen in his hand to sign a piece of paper that Pelosi-Reid permitted to leave Congress. Now with Boehner in the mix it is the Republicans’ fault that nothing has passed from Congress for Obama to vote “present” and sign the paper.
I am disappointed that the Democratic Party fed party fear-pablum to the masses and made it a contest around pigmentation.
First on Obama’s American experience. He grew up in Hawaii and Indonesia. Not exactly the same American experience held by those growing up in the 48 contiguous. His father, a PhD candidate and African communist, left early in his life. That is a real tough break. His step father took him to Indonesia and taught him the Indonesian Muslim way of life. Again, not the American experience. He came back to the U. S. and got into school, and Harvard. All very secret… hush, hush, spy drama benefactor stuff. He has not had the same American experience as a Colin Powell or a Condelezza Rice. But that is completely glossed over.
The Democratic Party and “no filter on that mouth” Biden sold fear. Now they didn’t actually say but they did imply it an awful lot. If “whitey” gets the White House you are going to lose ‘yours’. If that “man” gets in the White House women will be relegated to a tertiary position and lose all the gains ever made for women. If that “anti-gay” religious guy gets in the White House everyone will have to go back into the closet or be persecuted for who they are. If that “corporate raider”, “insensitive to the little guy” gets in the White House he will break up the unions and big corporations so only the rich get richer. There is probably someone I missed in offending but the Democratic Party didn’t miss in playing to their fears.
The sheen of the gloss was so good that people who considered themselves real Christians and not the name-only or Sunday/Wednesday kinds actually voted for a political party whose platform opposes their religion. Wow! That’s a pretty good con job.
No where did the Democratic Party point to their own party’s failure to represent the People nor their inability to manage the affairs of government. It is for this reason and this reason only. It is not about representative government, sound fiscal policy in the management of government, a singular voice of this nation to a community of nations, nor a broker for the goods and services of this nation in mutually beneficial trade. It is about Power. Theirs, not yours.
At no time did I hear the President call out Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to stop procedure blocking the Senate and send out a bill … or maybe a budget; which the Senate has not passed in 4 … yes 4 years. No, it was always a Boehner-Ryan issue and those stiff necked Republicans unwilling to negotiate, unwilling to cross the aisle. Never mind that the CBO gives all the numbers needed for the President to manage affairs of government even without an official budget, and he could have with just that information, because a good manager just needs to know what is the revenue expected and stay below that on all his/her expenses.
The USDebtClock.org site estimates US Federal Revenue at 2.4 trillion dollars. That’s a lot of money BUT apparently not enough. US Federal Spending exceeds 3.5 trillion dollars. That is roughly 46% more than income. And that has been the same story for 4 years in a row. That is how Obama and company have added nearly 6 trillion dollars to the national debt, by not managing the business of governance. I have to ask why? Why didn’t anyone stay on that subject?
The President knows how to play golf, give tele-prompted speeches and abase himself internationally. He does not know how to lead or manage. He was a lawyer who only knows how to pad the invoice and a community organizer who spends everything he can get. He does not know how to manage. If he did he would not be surrounded by college professors and lackeys with little or no real world experience.
So, what have we gained in Election 2012? About 2 more years of mounting debt, 2 more years of ineffective governance, 2 more years of Presidential legislation through executive order, destabilization of everything the Marshall Plan ever built, an emboldened UN, and a world without effectual leadership from the USA.
Those who currently weep rivers of emotion over their savior’s ascension to grace will find that their lord will not be as beneficial as first hoped. I predict it will be worse.
